Traces of War - Photographs by Jan Banning
From April 2 to 15, 2005 laif, in co-operation with Rheinische JournalistInnenbüro/Recherche International e.V. will be hosting the exhibition 'Traces of War' by Jan Banning in our gallery to accompany the publication of the book '"Our Victims Don't Count". The Third World in the Second World War'.
'Traces of War' is the title of a project in which Jan Banning photographed and interviewed survivors who during the Second World War were forced to work for the Japanese on the Thailand-Burma and Sumatra railways. The project was inspired by the fact that Jan Banning's father was one of the prisoners of war forced to work on the construction of the Sumatra railway from spring 1944 until the end of the war in 1945.
We warmly invite you and your friends to the opening of the exhibition on
Friday April 1, 2005, at 8.00 pm
The photographer, his father, Frans Banning, and Dolf Winkler, one of the survivors, will be present for the opening.
On Tuesday April 5, 2005 at 8.00 pm in the gallery Birgit Morgenrath and Karl Rössel from Rheinische JournalistInnenbüro will present the book '"Our Victims Don't Count". The Third World in the Second World War'.
