European Architectural Photography Prize 2009

The theme of this year's European Architectural Photography Prize is "New Homeland". Among the 233 entries from 16 countries, the jury - presided over by Hans-Michael Koetzle, journalist and until 2007 chief editor of Leica World - awarded first prize to the four-part photographic series by Stephan Sahm (Munich). Sahm's pop-art-style photo quartet shows hamster cages as the "new plastic homes" of pets and underlines the multilayered nature of this advertising theme.

Photographer Martin Roemers received an honorary mention for his picture of the urban jungle in Mumbai, India.

The awards ceremony was held on April 24 in Frankfurt am Main.
An exhibition of the award-winning photographs runs through June 30, 2009, at the German Architecture Museum in Frankfurt.
